Detailed Review
The Shark PowerDetect Upright Vacuum Cleaner is an intelligent upright vacuum designed for homes with mixed flooring and pets. Powered by autonomous sensors and dual brushrolls, this machine adapts its cleaning performance on the fly to clear embedded dirt, debris, and pet hair without requiring manual setting changes. It is particularly well suited for homeowners looking for strong suction and thorough floor-to-edge coverage across carpets and hard surfaces.
At the heart of the system is a suite of four Intelli-Sense sensors that handle floor, dirt, edge, and direction detection. When moving onto carpets or encountering hidden dirt pockets, the vacuum automatically boosts suction and brushroll speed. The edge-detection system recognizes walls and baseboards within two inches to increase pull power along borders, while direction sensors ensure full suction power whether pushing forward or pulling backward. The DuoClean two-brushroll setup tackles large debris and fine dust simultaneously, while a self-cleaning brushroll keeps pet hair from wrapping around the roller.
For high-reach cleaning and allergy management, the vacuum features Powered Lift-Away capability along with an Anti-Allergen Complete Seal. Coupled with an internal HEPA filter, it traps 99.99 percent of dust and non-living allergens down to 0.3 microns inside the unit rather than releasing them back into your living space. An onboard Odor Neutralizer Technology also guards against unpleasant odors inside the vacuum canister during daily use.
Shoppers should keep a few details in mind before purchasing. This listing is for a renewed product, meaning it has been refurbished rather than sold brand new. Additionally, the manufacturer specifications provided do not disclose exact measurements such as total weight, cord length, or dust cup capacity, so users looking for ultra-lightweight specs will need to take note. The listing also does not detail how long the odor neutralizer components last before needing replacement.
Verdict: The Shark PowerDetect Upright Vacuum Cleaner delivers automated floor adjustment, tangle-free pet hair pickup, and sealed HEPA filtration in a single unit. It is an ideal pick for pet owners and households with mixed carpet and hard flooring who want strong, sensor-driven cleaning power without having to adjust controls manually.

The vacuum uses ultrasonic Intelli-Sense sensors to identify floor surface changes and detect embedded dirt. It automatically adjusts suction strength and brushroll speed when transitioning between hard floors and carpets or when encountering heavy debris.
Does pet hair get tangled around the brushroll?
No, the vacuum features a self-cleaning brushroll designed specifically to deliver pet hair pickup without hair wrapping around the roller.
How effectively does this vacuum filter out dust and allergens?
Its Anti-Allergen Complete Seal works alongside a HEPA filter to capture and trap 99.99 percent of dust and non-living allergens down to 0.3 microns inside the vacuum.
Does this vacuum clean effectively when pulling backward?
Yes, direction sensors detect whether you are moving forward or backward and automatically direct suction power where needed to clean effectively in both directions.
